Roasted on premises by one of Kyoto’s leading artisanal suppliers of premium green teas, this Yamashiro hojicha is made from high quality tea leaves and features a refreshing umami taste and fragrant aroma. This is definitely a superior experience to the mass produced hojicha usually found outside of Japan.
Hojicha is unique in being made from tea leaves traditionally roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal, rather than steamed as is the case with other green teas. The result is a relaxing, mild type of tea with much lower caffeine content, and a toasty, slightly caramel-like flavor, that is commonly served in Japan with an evening meal or to children. Hojicha is also delicious served cold, making it a great drink for the warm months.
*Please prepare in a teapot; placing this tea directly in a kettle will result in a significant loss of flavor.
