From Yamashiro, one of Kyoto’s leading suppliers of premium Uji-style teas, this Uji gyokuro tea is grown pesticide-free organic by Masahiro Nagatani, a tea farmer in Ujitawara Town, Tsuzuki District, Kyoto Prefecture. Most organically grown teas are of the more regular sencha variety, while organic gyokuro teas are quite rare.

Gyokuro is the highest grade of Japanese green tea, grown on special tea plantations and traditionally shaded with straw mats for the last 3-4 weeks before picking. This tea is best enjoyed in small sips, to allow the rich aroma, and gentle, subtle flavors to fill your palate.
