This beautiful traditionally done Japanese Buddha statue is of Amida Nyorai, the principal image of the Shinshu Otani school of Pure Land Buddhism in Japan, one of the largest denominations in the country, and one which has as its mother temple the world-famous Higashi Honganji in Kyoto.

Made of fine-grained Japanese Cypress (hinoki), this piece slowly turns more brown as the years go by, with a feeling of increased profoundness meant to occur. Perfect for a Japanese style altar, or as an object of decoration for those interested in Japanese Buddhism. The round (maru) shape of the statue pedestal gives a soft, gentle impression.
