This roasted hojicha tea is from one of Japan’s leading tea producing regions, the Iwatahara Plateau in Shizuoka Prefecture. Shizukaen single sources all its teas from individual farmers in Iwatahara, insuring consistency, quality, and a commitment to tradition and taste.
Hojicha is unique in being made from tea leaves roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal, rather than steamed as is the case with other green teas. The result is a relaxing, mild tea with much lower caffeine content, and a toasty, slightly caramel-like flavor, that is commonly served in Japan with an evening meal or to children.
