This deep-steamed green tea is from one of Japan’s leading tea producing regions, the Iwatahara Plateau in Shizuoka Prefecture. Shizukaen single sources all its teas from individual farmers in Iwatahara, insuring consistency, quality, and a commitment to tradition and taste.
What makes “Fukamushi Cha” (deep-steamed green tea) unique is a sweeter, richer, and bolder taste that results from harvesting young tea leaves and then steaming them for almost twice as long as is typical with other green teas.
The Gardenia brand of Shizukaen Fukamushi Cha uses nibancha, or “second tea”. These are tea leaves from 2nd tea harvest of the season, which are often used for more affordable home teas, or for commercial-grade teas in restaurants.
