Roasted on premises by one of Kyoto’s leading artisanal suppliers of premium green teas, this popular Yamashiro hojicha is made from sencha green tea leaf stalks.
Hojicha is unique in being made from tea leaves traditionally roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal, rather than steamed as is the case with other green teas. The result is a relaxing, mild type of tea with much lower caffeine content, and a toasty, slightly caramel-like flavor, that is commonly served in Japan with an evening meal or to children. Hojicha is also delicious served cold, making it a great drink for the warm months.
*Please prepare in a teapot; placing this tea directly in a kettle will result in a significant loss of flavor.
